A free companion application for the Uniden UBC125XLT scanner, for macOS and, despite the name, native 64-bit Windows too.

Mac125 connects to the scanner over USB and gives you a desktop app for the jobs that are awkward to do directly on the radio: reading, editing, backing up and writing scanner memories.

What it does

Scanner programming on the desktop you use.

Mac125 is intended to be practical rather than complicated: connect the scanner, load the memories, make changes, and write them back when you are ready. The Windows release brings the same focused workflow to a native Windows app.

Why I made it

One scanner tool for the computers I actually use.

I could not find the sort of native-feeling utility I wanted for the UBC125XLT, so Mac125 became one of those “I wonder if I can build this” projects. It started on the Mac and is now also available as a native Windows app.

It is free to use, developed in spare time, and shared in the hope that it helps other scanner users who prefer working from a Mac or Windows PC.

USB safety note: do not unplug the scanner while it is connected and being read from or written to. Power the scanner off first if you need to disconnect it.

Installation overview

Choose your platform.

Mac125 has separate public release pages for macOS and Windows. Existing users can use the app's update notification where available; new users can obtain the installer or DMG from the relevant GitHub release page. Installation and scanner changes always need your approval and action.

Mac125 for macOS

Mac125 v0.5.2 is a universal Apple Silicon and Intel build for macOS 12 or later. Download Mac125_v0.5.2_macos.dmg from the release page, close Mac125, then drag or copy the new app to Applications and replace the existing copy.

Installation is always manual: nothing downloads, installs or replaces your current app automatically. Mac125 is ad-hoc signed and not notarised, so if Gatekeeper warns that the app is from an unidentified developer, use the usual macOS Open Anyway route in System Settings after confirming it came from the trusted GitHub release page.

Mac125 for Windows

Open the Windows v0.1.4 release page and choose the Mac125 installer under Assets.

  • Self-contained installer for 64-bit Windows, with no separate .NET runtime required
  • Creates normal Start Menu and desktop access
  • Supports safe upgrades while retaining user settings and saved scanner data

Small fixes and a tidier workspace.

Existing Mac users are notified when an update is available. The download, installation and any scanner changes remain entirely under your control.

What's new in v0.5.2

  • Fixes a channel-selection issue that could prevent Apply local edit being available after changing banks or filters. A normal click now correctly selects only that row and clears hidden selections.
  • Tidies secondary workspace controls into a matching two-column panel for Custom Search, Live Activity Log, Global Lockouts, Priority and Scanner Settings.
  • Adds a new Companion section in Mac125 Settings, preparing the Mac app for a future Mac125 companion release on iPhone and iPad.
  • Updates the in-app Help and release notes.

  • A Wide layout that makes better use of shorter laptop displays, with collapsible Audio controls
  • Direct channel-table editing with double-click or F2, plus normal keyboard navigation
  • A compact Edit Details view for full channel editing
  • Optional local Notes, kept with local files and backups and never written to the scanner
  • New local channels can be created in empty rows, with validation before saving or writing
  • Existing scanner-write safeguards remain: review, confirmation, backups and verified readback
